My name is Darren Johnson and I am a Business Operations Analyst at Dish Network in Englewood, CO.
My love for film began at a young age. Like many young boys, the first movie to really make an impact on me was “Star Wars,” but not too long after I also fell in love with the many productions of Alfred Hitchcock and musicals like “Singin’ in the Rain.” I believe I was 10 when I first saw “Casablanca,” and remarkably I appreciated it as much then as I do now. I didn’t start writing about movies until college, when I felt I needed an additional creative outlet aside from my music. I began writing reviews of the films I would see with friends, and they requested that I start a website where all of my reviews could be found in one place. When I was younger, I enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, but for my excessively critical mind, this seems like a good way for me to channel my criticism in a useful way; off of me and on to something else, hopefully sparking conversation. For more about my views on the movies and my goals with this blog, check out my Welcome page.
I also began making more trips to the cinema while in school. Going to the movies became a usual weekend event for me – sometimes with friends, often alone. It was the one time a week that I could transport myself into another, more colorful, more optimistic world that wasn’t quantified in Excel. I only hope my passion is exhibited in my writing as much as it is in my heart.
Some things to know about me –
I love music more than film. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that music and film are two of my passions, given that they go so well together. John Williams is just as, if not more brilliant than Steven Spielberg.
